The Debating Society of NSIT
The Debating Society of NSIT was founded in 2010 as the blanket name under which a dozen or so mildly effusive to-be engineers began gathering, contemplating and discussing life, the universe and everything.
Several years on, DebSoc stands not for the value the name carries, neither the exposure to the national debating circuit, nor the opportunity to establish contacts with several of the many over achievers of our college. DebSoc is for the family it gives you, and the freedom to explore and do. Case in point - 2015 saw the birth of good ideas, with great implementation. Our own college book club - The Page Turners; Travian - the intra college debating triathlon; Illumnati - the official magazine of the NSIT DebSoc. With the formation of the NSIT Parliamentary Debate team – NSIT had its first stab at a traditionally DU dominated arena. The NSIT DebSoc has sent a delegation to the Harvard National Model United for four back-to-back years. Interestingly, it is the only college in the Indian Subcontinent to be selected four times consecutively for the honour. The greatest fulfillment of a family is celebration, and the Annual NSIT Debating and Literary fest, Colloquium, is our celebration. Last year, with a reach of close to 50,000 across North India, and engagement in the thousands, Colloquium'15 was grand. It hosted over 10 major events under its banner, including the NSIT Model United Nations and Indian Parliamentary Colloquium. From milestone to milestone, the DebSoc is doing it all. True to its roots, however, every week sees the DebSoc members across the years meet at the iconic Connecting Block Terrace, ready to ponder and debate afresh. “It couldn’t be 42, no way, that’s too obvious.” |
The Alliance
Envisaged with a vision to weave the different spheres of college life together, and acquaint one and all about everything that one ought to know while in NSIT, this e-newspaper is an attempt to keep NSIT at par with other institutions worldwide. The team here at Alliance leaves no stone unturned to ensure that each and every student has access to the latest update in NSIT. Starting from college fests to internship opportunities to faculty interviews and placement statistics, anything found relevant for an NSITian is broadcasted, either through our editions, released twice a semester or simply through social media. Being the only newspaper society of NSIT, we make it our prime responsibility to report all major up comings in the college, covering every issue with the lenses of impartiality. Each edition is freshly handmade, with a pinch of creativity and loads of innovation and deliberation, keeping enough room for the latest buzz and trivia. Any major happening in college - fourth years making it to prestigious grad schools, or an MIT Professor visiting our college, everything is reported instantly through social media, to keep the students up-to-date every single time. The successfully released 14 main editions, along with special editions covering fests, and the sweeping number of views of our Facebook page and website, all stand as a testimony to the versatility in our journalism over these four years. Originally, a student initiative, eventually the Alliance has seen an expansion in not only its team of journalists, but also in the readership, arenas covered, and reach.
